Philips Pronto - brillant invention and men’s toy

The Philips Pronto is a free programmable and designable universal-touchscreen-remote. It is possible to layout and program all menus with a special editor, the PC-software Pronto Edit, this means you can use any graphic (buttons, TV-logos etc.) to link this graphic with IR- codes, links, jumps, beeps and delays. Furthermore, one can use complete IR-series with one button. Every object has two graphics (pushed and normal). The IR-codes for the devices come from the extensive Pronto-library. On the other hand you can learn the IR-codes with the Pronto from the original-remote.

 

I started with the TS1000. This remote is good but the display is badly readable.

 

I recommend the TSU7000 / TSU7500. The TSU7000 / TSU7500. It works well, lies comfortably in the hand and has a good color- display. This remote is instead to send IR-codes and RF-codes, so you can also switch radio-controlled sockets.

 

For fanatic users the iPronto are an ideal object, you will probably need patience for the set-up. The iPronto is a Linux-based table-PC, based on the Intel X-SCALE-processor. The iPronto contains a big screen (640 x 480 dots), speakers, a MMC-card-drive, USB-connection and WIFi-card. Additional functions are the web- browser and the EPG. Philips switched the EPG in 2010 off. Further Philips doesn't finish the software/firmware. So the USB-connection is not in function, some websites are simply not shown (no support for flash-player) and the speaker only plays if you press a button. The web browser is also not able to play music or videos.

 

The current model TSU9800 with large 6,4 inch screen has some hard-buttons. This allowes you to use most of the item-functions without a touchscreen. The Java-based programming language ProntoScript allows the embedding of 2-way-controls for devices like musicservers, AV-receivers, lighting-systems, cameras etc. The devices can be connected via WiFi and their IP-adress or with Philips-extenders. The PC-Software Pronto Edit Professional concludes scripts for imerge and Escient musicservers, Lutron lighting-systems and MCE-computers via IP-adress.

 

note: The PRONTO-devices are no longer manufactured. There is no manufacture’s warranty and no service. For new purchases I therefore recommend other present solutions.
